This is my first post of many on my journey back to wellness.
One would think having a Bachelors of Science in Health Education as well as a MA in Health education would remind a person of the importance of taking care of oneself, but how easy it is to forget when you have two full time jobs – one being a health teacher and the other taking care of your children. As a mom of two young kids (Blake, almost 3 and Genevieve 1 in a few weeks!) as well as my paying job of being a teacher with a crazy commute – its no wonder my overall health has been put on the back burner for many years.
As each year passes, I say it was a rough year, however, 2016 was extremely challenging mentally, emotionally, and physically. The negative impact this year and neglect over a few years had on my overall health has been in a sense traumatic and it is going to take a lot of conscious effort on my part to try to get back to the person I want to be. To finally be in a good place mentally/emotionally as well attempting to be physically.
A prime example of my lack of self-care, which I hate to admit is that I haven’t been to the dentist in over 3 years. Big mistake. Now, what could have been an easy fix is going to cost a lot of money, uncomfortable procedures and time. In addition to that, I am not exercising as much as I should, eating healthy, or in the right mindset which can bring a person down.
My goal for 2017 to focus on self-care. I realize that in order to find peace, happiness, and gratitude in everyday things, I need to take care of myself. I will put my best foot forward using a variety of tools in order to accomplish this goal. I plan to repeat the saying, one day a time daily, to help me stay on task and to refocus when setbacks step in because let’s face it, life happens.
My first step is to utilize essential oils. I began this journey a few weeks ago and quickly learned not all oils are created equal. Skeptical at first, but after a few variety of uses, I have found them to be really helpful and truly amazing. I have so much to learn and I am really looking forward it. If you did not know, they can used for basically anything and I am slowly becoming obsessed with how helpful they really are.
As time goes on, I am going to incorporate more of my goals to accomplish my journey. Realistically, it is important to take small steps and progress slowly to increase the chance of success. If you set out with too broad or too many goals, it becomes overwhelming very quickly.
Thank you for joining me on my journey. If you are interested in learning about the oils I am using, or have any questions let me know! I’ve come to understand and appreciate the impact of encouraging each other and helping each other accomplish our goals, especially moms who may have lost their sense of self- like I have.
